DL 114 Phase 1 Affordable Housing

The Tofino Housing Corporation has applied to rezone the DL 114 Phase 1 development site in partnership with the Catalyst Community Developments Society.  Catalyst is an experienced not-for-profit developer, owner and operator of affordable rental housing and community spaces with over 10 projects in operation or development across southern BC and will be the developer and operator of the Sharp Road housing. You may have seen early concept plans of the DL 114 Phase 1 project and the design has evolved to 72 below-market rental housing apartment units in two separate buildings and 6 duplex units, which may be market housing or affordable homeownership housing.  For more information follow the links below.

Sharp Rd - Rezoning Complete

The rezoning for 14 units of below-market rental housing and the adoption of Housing Agreement bylaw - which specifies maximum rents and tenant eligibility - are both now complete. We are continuing to work with Catalyst Community Developments Society on securing grant funding and low-interest loans from CMHC to allow us to lower some of the rents below our current targets. We anticipate construction to start in August / September with occupancy 16-18 months later. Catalyst will be accepting registrations from interested individuals and households after construction has begun. 


THC Winter 2020 Update

We have recently provided our latest update to Council on the activities of the THC.  Highlights include: 

  • Sharp Rd Rezoned
  • CMHC Co-Investment application in progress for Sharp Rd
  • Sharp Rd construction to being in August / September
  • DL 114 Phase 1 in Rezoning process
  • THC pursuing an additional pre-development loan from BC Housing to fully complete apartment construction plans
  • THC facilitating a shared Staff Accommodation initiative with business community
