The Tofino Housing Corporation is continuing to make progress towards our primary goal of building new affordable rental housing in Tofino. As highlighted in the Winter 2019 report we have been making continued progress. Key highlights include:
* Developing with the assistance of Catalyst Community Developments Society a revised preferred design for a 12-14 unit rental housing development on Sharp Rd.
* Confirmation of a PDF no-interest loan from BC Housing for the pre-development work for DL 114, which will be backed by a loan guarantee from the District of Tofino.
* Confirmation with the District of Tofino of appropriate road design and servicing standards for DL 114.
We expect to be submitting rezoning applications for both Sharp Rd and the DL 114 phase 1 projects in the late spring / early summer.
We have released our Fall Report, providing an update on our activities over the late spring and summer. We held an important Public Open House in late June, have formed a partnership with the Catalyst Community Developments Society and facilitated the first sale of a Price Restricted Resident Restricted home in Tofino. The preliminary design work for the Sharp Rd and Phase 1 DL 114 projects have also continued to progress. We will have more to report on these projects in the new near year. In the near term, we will be doing some geotechnical test pit excavations on DL 114 to be able to refine our project plans, develop more accurate cost estimates and find cost-efficiencies.
On June 19th we held an Open House in the Council Chambers and Tofino Theatre. We presented preliminary plans for the development of 11 units on Sharp Rd and 55 units (in partnership with Tofino Bible Fellowship) on DL 114.
