The Catalyst Community Developments Society has received confirmation of grant amounts and financing and has started construction of Headwaters South (Bldg B). Construction of Headwaters North (Bldg A) is continuing.
If you would like to receive regular updates about the construction schedule and activities please email Robin Petri, the Development Manager, at robin@catalystcommdev.org. More information on the project and preliminary details of the anticipated rental housing application process is available at the Headwaters FAQs page.
The BC Housing Community Housing Fund has selected both Headwaters North (35 units) and Headwaters South (37 units) as affordable rental housing projects. The Fund will be providing a capital grant of approximately $7.7 million to the two rental housing projects and an ongoing operating subsidy. A mix of studio, 1 bedroom, 2 bedroom and 3 bedroom units will be rented to families, seniors and others at a range of different rents. Twenty percent of the units will be affordable to those on fixed incomes or social assistance, 50% of the units will have rents fixed to 30% of household income and generally eligible to those making between approximately $25,000 and $65,000 and 30% of the units will be affordable market units with rents ranging between approximately $900 and $2000 depending on unit size.
Construction is continuing on the Peterson Drive extension and Headwaters North and South. Recent progress has included:
The planned progress through January and into February includes framing the North building and forming and pouring the South building foundations.
The Tofino Housing Corporation completed the Purchase Lottery on October 4th for the half-duplexes at 346 and 356 Peterson Drive.
The Purchase Lottery included a total of 6 eligible applicants that were randomly ordered. All applicants were given an opportunity to get pre-qualified for a mortgage to be able to sign a Pre-Construction Purchase Contract. Unfortunately, there were not enough of the applicants who were able to pre-qualify and the Tofino Housing Corporation has put the Peterson Drive Duplexes project on hold. We are now in the process of considering what to do next, including reviving the project under similar or revised parameters.
