The Tofino Housing Corporation and the Tofino Bible Fellowship have been working with a team of development professionals over the last few months to develop preliminary plans for the first Phase of affordable housing on DL 114 and Sharp Rd. On June 19th these preliminary plans were presented publicly for the first time. For a copy of the presentation delivered at the Open House follow this link or follow the link for the preliminary plans below.
District Lot 114 is a large District of Tofino owned property just south of town. Currently DL 114 is home to the Community Hall, bike park and a trail network with trails to Tonquin Beach and Industrial Way. The District is exploring options for developing a Recreation Centre near the Community Hall and the main sewer line will run under the Industrial Way connector trail to deliver waste to the new sewage treatment plant on Industrial Way. The District has promised to gift land to the Tofino Housing Corporation and Tofino Bible Fellowship for affordable and attainable housing development. Our vision for Phase 1 housing includes a total of 55 units and a small Community Centre. There would be two-storey townhouses and two three-storey apartment buildings with a mix of studio, one, two and three bedroom units. Phase 1 is likely exclusively rental housing. Our preliminary plans build off of the overall land use vision for housing on DL 114 as articulated in the District's Official Community Plan and the DL 114 Local Area Plan (see Appendix B). You can download the preliminary concept plans for DL 114 below.
The Sharp Rd site is surplus District-owned land and is located about 4 km from Town. The Tofino Housing Corporation is looking at developing the site for rental housing. The site is just over the small bridge past the Dolphin Motel and kitty-corner to 660 Sharp Rd. The preliminary plan is for 11 units of rental housing in a courtyard townhouse form with four 1-bedroom units, six two-bedroom units and one 3 bedroom unit.
